Yesterday afternoon in El Paso, a group of dozens of illegal aliens broke through a concertina wire barrier placed by Operation Lone Star personnel and rushed a group of Texas National Guardsmen who attempted to prevent them from proceeding further into our state. At least one appeared to grab a guardsman’s rifle and attempt to seize it.

Governor Abbott later released a statement saying that the situation was brought under control and those involved were arrested for criminal trespass and destruction of property, but reporting from the New York Post’s Jennie Taer indicated that many in this group had been handed over to Customs and Border Protection, processed, and then released into our nation’s interior.

This scenario could lead to further escalating encounters with groups of illegal aliens if steps are not taken to ensure that guardsmen can effectively apply force to repel a rush of this kind.

Earlier today, the United States House of Representatives passed what critics call a “Swamp Omnibus” to fund defense, the Department of Homeland Security, and other offices.

Border Security experts have pointed to several problems with the $1.2 trillion bill, including the creation of 12,000 Special Immigrant Visas for Afghan refugees and funding for more resources for border enforcement without the corresponding policy changes proposed in H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023.

Without changing the broken Biden Administration policies, further funding for DHS will only lead to further facilitation of the invasion at our border.

The final vote was 286-134, with 101 House Republicans voting for the measure and 112 voting against. Several Texas Republicans voted yea:

-John Carter (CD 31)
-Dan Crenshaw (CD 2)
-Monica De La Cruz (CD 15)
-Jake Ellzey (CD 6)
-Kay Granger (CD 12)
-Michael McCaul (CD 10)
