FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Sailors from the U.S. Navy’s Littoral Combat ship, USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) will be honoring those who have gone before them by taking time to give back to veterans and their families in their ship’s namesake city. Teaming up with Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County, sailors will spend the morning on Monday, January 29th, delivering heaters and pantry bags to veteran clients. They will make their first stop at the Forest Hill Adult Activity Center and be welcomed by Forest Hill Mayor Stephanie Boardingham and City Manager Venus Wehle and then on to wish a very happy birthday to Meals On Wheels client and WWII veteran Mr. Thomas, who recently turned 103 years old.

“A visit from the sailors of the USS Fort Worth will be a welcomed surprise to our veteran clients who often experience social isolation. We serve many heroes who today are often overlooked,” said Philip Gonzalez, Marketing and Communications Specialist for Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County. “This is our fourth time teaming up with the sailors from U.S.S. Fort Worth, so we have seen firsthand the sense of pride and honor our clients feel when their fellow service members show up to salute them in their own home.”

Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County and the USS Fort Worth Support Committee invite media to attend this special day of service between our active and retired service members.
