UT Tyler Charter School Teacher Recognized by Humanities Texas

NORRIS WHITE, JR.

TYLER, Texas (December 13, 2023) – Norris White Jr., a teacher at The University of Texas at Tyler University Academy – Palestine Campus, was named a 2023 Commended Teacher by Humanities  Texas. 

Humanities Texas annually recognizes teaching excellence and outstanding achievements of  teachers across the state. Nominees must be full-time teachers in Texas public or private schools  and should be skillful and dedicated teachers who possess an expansive and profound knowledge of  the humanities subject(s) they teach. 

“We congratulate the incomparable Mr. Norris White on being recognized as a Commended  Teacher of Texas History by the prestigious Humanities Texas organization,” said Shelly Parsons, UA  Palestine Campus interim director. “Mr. White instructs with the upmost standards of rigor and  excellence and demands the best of his scholars.” 

A UT Tyler alum, White teaches US history, world geography/history and political science for Grades  8-12 and has been with the district for five years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and  anthropology from UT Tyler and a master’s degree in history from Stephen F. Austin State  University, a member of the UT System. 

Affiliated with the National Endowment for Humanities, Humanities Texas advances education  through programs that improve the quality of classroom teaching, support libraries and museums,  and create opportunities for lifelong learning.
