UT Tyler Students Present Artwork at Meadows Gallery

The artwork of Bachelor of Fine Arts degree candidates at The University of Texas at Tyler is currently displayed at the UT Tyler Meadows Gallery.

The fall 2023 Bachelor of Fine Arts exhibition, Threads of Life and Introspection, highlights student artists Luis Perez and Nichole Hawthorn, both of Longview; Nyxx Kane of Wills Points; Sara Smith of Tyler; and Alex Sanders of Louisiana.

UT Tyler’s Department of Art and Art History will host a public reception with artist talks at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at the gallery. The exhibition concludes Friday, Dec. 8.

Perez focuses his oil painting and printmaking on moments of intimacy and spirituality, as well as his Mexican heritage. Hawthorn works with ceramics and printmaking to create moments of nostalgia using animal subjects and memorable objects. Kane works with oil paint to create cityscapes, which explore the feeling of comfort within discomfort. Smith focuses on the ideas of materialism and repressed memory using oil paint on canvas and ceramic sculptures. Sanders works primarily with mixed media sculpture focusing on the concepts of life, death and fear, using animals as the primary subject matter.

Located in the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, the UT Tyler Meadows Gallery is open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment.
