Gladewater Christmas Parade Celebrates City’s Sesquicentennial with “Joy to the Rails” Theme

Gladewater, TX (November 28, 2023) – The 2023 Gladewater Christmas Parade will take to the downtown streets of the Antique Capital of East Texas to celebrate the holiday season, on Saturday, December 9, at 4:30 p.m. This year’s theme, “Joy to the Rails,” is the perfect complement to the city’s year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Gladewater.

The parade will feature music, community groups, brightly lit floats, classic cars, the city’s safety services, and of course, Santa Claus himself. Enjoy free hot chocolate and cookies while visiting Gladewater’s festive downtown. Children can mail their holiday wishes to Santa’s Workshop at a magical mailbox on the square at Pacific and Main.

To register to be in the parade, contact the Gladewater Chamber of Commerce at (903) 845-5501. Float entries are free and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place. Deadline for entries is Monday, December 4th.

This merry Christmas event is part of Gladewater’s Sesquicentennial celebration and is presented by Citizens Bank, Gladewater Chamber of Commerce, Gladewater EDC, the City of Gladewater, and Gladewater 150.

In the summer of 1873, the Texas and Pacific Railroad began the push westward from Longview, Texas. To meet the water needs of the trains, a stop was planned in the vicinity of the Sabine River and the Point Pleasant Community. The new community, which was named Gladewater, was created from lands purchased from Jarred Dean and Anderson White (North and South respectively), with city parcels divided among the three for sale. 2023 marks Gladewater’s 150th year and our 150th year in a partnership with Texas and Pacific – now Union Pacific Railroad.
