Gourd Vibes

SUNDAY October 1, 2023

“I’d say the first thing you need is …a pumpkin.”

Fairy Godmother, Cinderella

We officially roll into the Great Pumpkin season this week. Some of us are already tired of hearing about all the pumpkin spice products headed our way, while others intend to fully immerse themselves in all the goodness. From lattes to pies, cakes to ice cream, donuts to beer, there’s no shortage of food products to satisfy that pumpkin urge. The ambiance of our entire region blooms in orange with displays throughout our communities and even across hay fields with round pumpkin-faced hay bales.

With the Upper East Side of Texas saturated in pumpkins this time of year, inventive neighbors try to come up with new ways to celebrate the season. Longview has a whole festival planned around the Great Pumpkin Roll, a competition involving rolling them down a hill. In past years, pumpkins have rolled up to two city blocks!

This is just one of the many fun things to do in the region this month. Keep reading below, visit our website and social media, and let the good times roll! — P..A. Geddie
