Southern Arkansas University Loe brothers qualify for Bassmasters College Series National Championship

MAGNOLIA, AR (09/25/2023) Levi and Trace Loe, brothers from Waldo, Arkansas, and members of the Southern Arkansas
University Fishing Team brought home their first college tournament win at the 2023/2024
Arkansas College Qualifier hosted by Arkansas Youth BASS Nation on Millwood Lake.
After a rough practice prior to the tournament, the Loes weren’t expecting to do well on
September 9th. With nothing to lose, the freshmen twins made the game-day decision to run
new water, and the rest was history.
The Loe brothers caught an impressive 19.58 lbs, earning them a $400 prize and qualifying
them to compete in the Bassmaster College Series National Championship in summer 2024.
“I’ve watched these young men from their first high school tournament as Magnolia Panthers to
their first college tournament as Muleriders,” SAU Fishing Coach Chris Boswell said. “What they
did at this tournament was really impressive against some really tough competition. To say I'm
proud is an understatement!”
For the Loes, fishing is more than a hobby. More importantly, they’ve always been a team.
“We’ve been fishing since we could walk,” Levi said, recalling how their father used to tie the
brothers to the rail of the boat by their life jackets when they were little. “One of us would hold
the pole and the other would reel the fish.”
With a national championship on the horizon, the Loe brothers are determined to stay grounded.
Both are animal science majors who enjoy studying close to home.
“We feel very blessed and excited,” Trace said about the national championship. “The pressure
is off. Now, it’s just having fun with the other colleges and seeing what they can do.”
