UT Tyler Chemical Engineering Programming Earns ABET Accreditation

TYLER (September 13, 2023) – The University of Texas at Tyler has earned inaugural  accreditation for its undergraduate chemical engineering degree program through 2027 by the  Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. UT Tyler is now the nineth institution with  ABET-accredited chemical engineering programming in Texas and one of 163 nationwide.

ABET accreditation is a gold-star standard of accreditation for college and university programs with  bachelor’s and master’s degrees in STEM education. The commission also accredits UT Tyler’s civil,  electrical and mechanical engineering programs.

“We are pleased that our Jasper Department of Chemical Engineering has earned accreditation by  ABET,” said Dr. Amir Mirmiran, UT Tyler provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.  “With ABET accreditation, students and employers can be confident that our program meets the  quality standards that produce graduates who are well prepared to enter the workforce here in East  Texas and beyond.”

Established in 2019 by a generous gift from Jasper Ventures, Inc., the UT Tyler Jasper Department of  Chemical Engineering is part of UT Tyler’s College of Engineering –– East Texas’ only comprehensive  engineering school. Nearly 1,000 engineering students attend classes on campuses in Tyler and  Houston.

“This is exciting news for our Jasper Department of Chemical Engineering, chemical engineering  majors and college as a whole,” said Dr. Javier Kypuros, dean of the College of Engineering. “This  accreditation means that we are successfully accomplishing our mission, which is serving the needs  of our students and the companies hiring them. I want to thank our dedicated faculty, accreditation  team and the industrial advisory board.”
