HOUSTON, TX – (Sept. 9, 2023) The UNCF Walk for Education, a 5K (3.1 miles) walk/certified-timed run, and 5 mile bike trail, is a local initiative to raise the critical funds UNCF (United Negro College Fund) needs to fulfill its mission to support its 37-member HBCUs (historically Black colleges and universities) and to help underserved students become active participants of society through a high-quality education.
Join honorary event chair and City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner at this family friendly, healthy event and celebrate education with family and friends on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Tom Bass Park, Section 1, 3452 Fellows Road, Houston, TX 77047.

Day of Registration opens at 7:00 a.m. at the Art Pavilion
All participants are welcome at the UNCF Hospitality/Alumni Village Tent for pre- and post-walk refreshments and entertainment from 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Day of free community activities include:
- Vaccinations for students under 18-years old, provided by HarrisHealth
- Scholarship services and college readiness materials for students and parents
- Dominos and spades tournament, DJs, refreshments by Frenchy’s, H-E-B, Whataburger and Cobo Bobs Burritos
- Game truck, Black Barbie Doll Display, Photobooths and more
Down to the minute healthy stretch for all participants is at 7:55 a.m. and the start horn sounds at 8:00 a.m. The UNCF Family looks forward to a successful community event in support of future leaders.
