Steven W. Murphy announces the release of ‘Addicted to God and Recovery’

New book helps people break down the barriers by using the 12 steps and Scriptures to change their lives and keep their eyes on God

SAN ANTONIO – Steven W. Murphy, LCDC, AADC has witnessed the 12 steps to help thousands of people over the last 40 years to find recovery. As his faith grew, he wondered where he could find all 12 steps in one paragraph or chapter of the Bible. He found them and wanted to share them with the world by releasing “Addicted to God and Recovery” (published by WestBow Press).

People think that the word recovery is for alcoholics and drug addicts. However, Murphy believes everyone struggles with idols, habits, behaviors, and barriers to a godly life. This book helps people break down obstacles by using the 12 steps and Scriptures that urge people to change their lives and keep their eyes on God. It will help them see the patterns, stop the behaviors they can control, get help for those they cannot, and use the resources God has provided through Scriptures, 12-step recovery, and Christian living. It was not written to twist the Scriptures or the word of God but to use inspired processes to help people overcome sin and destructive behaviors.

“I hope this book appeals to readers by providing them with a path that helps us transition from problems to solutions, from distance to a connection with God, a path that can be repeated with results and different testimonies each time that people learn godly practices laid out in Scripture that will change their lives,” Murphy says. He adds, “We live in an age blessed by technology, information, wealth, and opportunity provided by our Creator, but we are losing our connections to each other and the God that made it all possible. We can have anything we want but find it is still not enough. We worship the creations but not the Creator and this book brings us back to fill the void within us.”

When asked what he wants readers to take away from the book, Murphy answered, “My prayer is that the readers of this book find ways to overcome self-destructive behaviors. I hope they learn that building faith and receiving God’s healing can remove sin from their lives. If they feel distant from God, they can fellowship, learn, eliminate negative emotions, build faith, and live blessed lives. I pray they realize it took them a while to develop bad habits and understand that developing healthy practices takes time and persistence. Don’t stop 5 minutes before the miracle happens.”
