Summer fun takes off this week with home-grown events and adventures organic to the region. This week the city of Jacksonville hosts ripe juicy fun at the 39th annual Tomato Fest on Saturday with live music, talent shows, contests, and more.

Shelby Cobra Movie Premiered This Week in 1974

June 9, 1974, was the release date of Gone in Sixty Seconds, considered to be one of the most famous car chase movies ever made, which starred a Shelby Cobra car named Eleanor. A remake of the film starring Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie premiered June 9, 2000.

Shelby Cobra was a line of muscle cars — Ford Mustangs — designed by East Texan Carroll Shelby. In 2016, Eleanor was valued at $145,000. READ MORE.

Jacksonville, Texas, rolls out red juicy fun with its 39th Annual Tomato Fest the first week of June.
