Trivia Competition Aims to Increase Student Mental Health Services
Next Step Community Solutions will host ‘Battle of the Brains’ on May 11 to raise awareness and funds for the organization’s mental health and substance abuse prevention programs. The event is scheduled from 11 am – 1 pm at Oak Crossing Event Center in Whitehouse, TX. Lunch will be provided as teams from businesses and organizations compete in a high-energy trivia competition.
“Our staff is very much looking forward to the inaugural ‘Battle of the Brains’ event and hope it’s the first of many,” said Next Step Executive Director Brandon Davidson. “May is observed nationally as Mental Health Month and I’m excited to see these local businesses compete while raising awareness about the need for mental health services for youth in our communities.”
According to Mental Health America’s latest The State of Mental Health in America report, Texas ranks 46th out of 51 for youth mental health and ranks last (51st out of 51) for access to mental health care in the United States.
The work of Next Step Community Solutions centers around youth mental and behavioral health in East Texas. The organization serves more than 1,500 students each year with mental health counseling and thousands more with suicide and substance use prevention programs.
