Applications for new historical markers begin at the county level

Historical markers can be found in each of the state’s 254 counties, telling the stories of people, organizations, events, and other factors that have shaped our communities. Applications for new markers begin at the county level.

The Texas Historical Commission’s website has more information about how to contact your local county historical commission and how the process works. Applications are due May 15.
