Dear Friend,
As you may know, I am currently in the Indo-Pacific region, alongside Chairman Michael McCaul and other members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, working to promote American interests abroad. Throughout the trip, I am meeting with American allies, conducting oversight over the region, and firming up strategic partnerships. As the world leader in democracy, it is vital that the foreign policy of the United States remains strong, steady, and strategic.
So far, I have had the opportunity to tour the United States Navy’s Seventh Fleet in Japan and speak with the brave Americans serving our nation overseas. It is clear that these servicemen and women are working diligently to promote American interests while ensuring that our military remains strong and respected on the international stage.

During last week’s Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Ukraine Oversight and Accountability, I began my line of questioning by expressing the concerns I have about the money authorized last year by Congress – concerns that many of you also have.
The United States has sent over $100 billion to Ukraine to defend their borders, yet we have seen no action from the Biden Administration to defend our own – something we feel the impact of each day in East Texas. As hardworking Americans look towards retirement, the Biden Administration chose to send American tax dollars abroad towards pensions and retirement plans for Ukrainian officials, rather than contribute these funds to the diminishing social security fund.
There are concerns about our nation’s military readiness, and questions as to why the United States has played a leading role in Ukraine’s defense as opposed to other European nation’s who are closer to the conflict, and more susceptible to Russia’s aggression.
It is essential that we stand against Russia’s violent invasion of Ukraine, but there cannot be a blank check. Americans deserve to know where and how exactly their tax dollars being sent to Ukraine’s defense are being spent – we need transparency, and every American dollar must be accounted for.
As your voice in Congress, I will continue to demand answers on behalf of the American people.

Since 2020, Fentanyl-related overdose deaths in Texas have more than doubled. The Biden Administration has continued to turn a blind eye to our porous southern border, and as a result, record high amounts of Fentanyl are being smuggled across this border.
We must hold those responsible for this crisis accountable.
Recently, I introduced legislation that would direct the President to annually publish a list of Mexican individuals involved with, or aware of, the manufacturing, distribution, transfer, or trafficking of illicit Fentanyl. Upon the publication of this list, these individuals will be sanctioned.

Congratulations to Wiley College, who celebrates 150 years of academic excellence this year. Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with students, professors, and administrations from the school and lead the group on a tour of the U.S. Capitol.
While in Washington, the group has been volunteering at local churches and joining outreach organizations in the community. I always enjoy seeing familiar faces while in D.C. and am thankful for the opportunity to lead East Texans through the historic halls of our Capitol building!

For fifty years, the Heritage Foundation has served as an incredible resource for conservative values. The Foundation has worked with several generations of leaders to develop action for pressing issues such as school choice, election integrity, securing our southern border, and protecting our families.
I am honored to represent East Texans – folks who are dedicated to their families, their community, and their Lord. While meeting with Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts last week, we discussed how we can continue to work together to keep these values at the forefront of my work in Congress and to promote these values – East Texas values, across our nation.
