Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and Texas Army National Guard Announce the 2022-23 Boys and Girls Basketball Academic All-State Recipients

San Marcos – The Texas High School Coaches Association and the Texas Army National
Guard announce the 2022-23 Boys and Girls Academic All-State recipients. The award
recognizes high school athletes who excel in the following categories: GPA, class rank, and
ACT/SAT score. These recipients are recognized as team members based on their scores in
these categories and are grouped into Elite Team, 1st Team, 2nd Team, and honorable mention.
“THSCA is very passionate about the celebration of our coaches and athletes as we recognize
the elite academic efforts of our student athletes,” said Joe Martin, the Executive Director of
the Texas High School Coaches Association. “We’re excited to celebrate over 20,000 student
athletes for their academic accomplishments during the 2022-23 school year.”
To be nominated for Academic All-State, a student must be:
• A senior
• An athlete, student trainer or manager in good standing with the team
• Of good moral character
• Have an overall grade point average of 92 or above (including courses from grades 9-11
and courses completed from grade 12). GPA and class rank are considered in the
scoring.
When reviewing the nominations, students receive points based on each category. The total
number of points determines which team students are placed on. The classification of the
school is not a factor, and there is not a limit on how many students can make a team.

The highest honor a student athlete can make is the Elite Team, as a player must have near
perfect scores in all categories. The hierarchy then follows by 1st team, 2nd team, and honorable
mention.
