UT Tyler Announces 2023 East Texas Big Event 

Higher ed, city partner in community-wide service day 

TYLER, Texas (March 3, 2023) – The University of Texas at Tyler announced that the 2023 East Texas  Big Event will be 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, in downtown Tyler. 

Held in partnership with the city of Tyler and Tyler Junior College, the East Texas Big Event is a  family-friendly day of service opened to the entire East Texas community and led by UT Tyler and  TJC students. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. with service projects starting at 10 a.m. 

“UT Tyler is committed to serving our community. Facilitating a day of service helps our campus  community connect with the city and local agencies who are already doing great work,” said Ona  Tolliver, UT Tyler senior vice president for student success. “We are excited to collaborate with TJC  and other partners again this year to support the city of Tyler. We know this day will be impactful  for our community and our students.” 

Students, faculty, staff and community volunteers will help revitalize the downtown square and city  parks through painting and landscaping, as well as assisting PATH. After the service projects are  completed around noon, participants will enjoy a free lunch on the square. 

The UT Tyler Office of Leadership and Service offers various leadership development and service  opportunities to students, faculty, staff and the community.
