| AUSTIN – AFC-TX tonight praised Governor Abbott for naming educational freedom a legislative emergency item in his state of the state speech. Under the Texas Constitution, the Legislature may not bring a bill to the floor for the first sixty days of session unless it is designated an emergency item by the Governor.
In his speech, the Governor made clear that school choice is a priority for him, saying, “Parents also deserve education freedom. Without that freedom, some parents are hindered in helping their child succeed. That must change this year. The way to do that is with school choice through education savings accounts.” He went on to say that in this session we must “provide every parent with the ability to choose the best education option for their child.”
