Congress authorizes $26.6M for North Texas projects

Fifteen projects in Dallas will receive $26.6 million in federal money from the 2023 Government Funding Legislation. The selected projects will address local needs, job creation and economic development.

Funding was secured for the Children’s Hospital system, Southern Gateway Public Green Foundation and the city of Dallas and more.

Some of the chosen projects include:

  • $7.75 million to build a 5.1-acre deck park over Interstate-35 East in Dallas.
  • $3 million to address workforce needs in semiconductor-related industries in Texas.
  • $2.8 million to upgrade Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s (DART) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System that controls the light rail network.
  • $2.5 million to establish a transit hub at UT Dallas to include on-demand transit, EV charging stations and other amenities.
  • $1.6 million to create a center for wind energy at UT Dallas.

The funding will support existing capital projects including the consolidated dispatch and command center relocation project for DART. Many of these projects will be launched in 2023, including DART’s SCADA program. The program’s design phase is expected to be completed next year.
