Texas A&M University-Commerce football team has announced the seven-game Southland Conference schedule for the 2023 season, which features three games inside Ernest Hawkins Field at Memorial Stadium.
The Southland Conference schedule features games against all seven teams, the Lions are home three times and on the road four times, with three road games against fellow Texas schools.
The Lions’ second conference season in the Southland and first under coach Clint Dolezel begins with McNeese making its first trip to Commerce since 1970 on October 7. The Lions enjoyed a 40-15 win over the Pokes last season in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
The first conference road game comes at Incarnate Word on October 14. The Cardinals downed the Lions in Commerce in 2022 and play in the semifinal of the FCS playoffs this weekend.
The following Saturday, the Lions host Nicholls on October 21. The Colonels won 12-10 at home last season and are making their first trip to Commerce.
The Lions are on the road for the next two weekends. They are at Houston Christian on October 28, A&M-Commerce collected a 31-3 win in 2022 over the Huskies. The Lions reunite with Lamar in Beaumont on November 4. The two former LSC foes played each season from 1951-1963 with the Lions holding an 8-5 advantage in the series.
The defending Southland champions, Southeastern Louisiana, come east to Commerce in the final home game of the season on November 11. It is Southeastern’s first trip to Commerce since 1964 and A&M-Commerce collected a 31-28 win in Hammond last season, which was Southeastern’s only loss against a Southland foe.
The regular season concludes with a trip to Natchitoches, Louisiana, against Northwestern State, who won 41-14 in 2022. The Lions are playing in Natchitoches for the first time since 2008.
The full 11-game schedule for the 2023 season will be released in the spring.
