COMMERCE – Texas A&M University-Commerce football team received national recognition for its win over nationally-ranked Southeastern Louisiana. Quarterback
Eric Rodriguez was named an honorable mention FedEx Ground FCS National Offensive Player of the Week, while the Lions were named an honorable mention FCS National Team of the Week by FCS Stats.
Rodriguez (Fort Bend Travis) tossed four touchdowns on 26 for 38 passing with 374 yards and rushed for 35 yards. He returned to the field after missing the previous two games and has thrown 11 touchdowns in 2.5 games played this season.
The Lions were one of four teams to be highlighted by FCS Stats for significant wins last weekend. A&M-Commerce downed SLU, who was the preseason favorite to win the Southland Conference. A&M-Commerce outgained Southeastern, 485 to 384, and handed SLU its first loss against an FCS opponent this season.
A&M-Commerce, who is 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in SLC play, is back in action on Saturday at McNeese. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
