NE Texas Habitat for Humanity and Greater Longview United Way Continue Partnership
09/27/2022 – Longview. – Northeast Texas Habitat announced today that Greater Longview United Way had awarded the organization $46,000 for their Self-Help Home Ownership and Critical Repairs programs.
The Critical Repair program focuses on correcting health and safety hazards in the homes of lower-income elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and military veterans. Since the program began in 2013, it has grown from 8 repairs a year to 125 each year across the three county service areas.
“Greater Longview United Way is proud of the partnership we have with Northeast Texas Habitat for Humanity. We are thankful for their commitment to providing stable housing for so many in East Texas. We look forward to the ways that we can continue to collaborate in the future to address vital issues facing our community, state, and nation.” Said Dr. Evan M. Dolive, Executive Director, GLUW
NE Texas Habitat for Humanity also partners with low-income families experiencing housing poverty to build decent, affordable homes. Future homeowners contribute 350 sweat equity hours and make a 1% or $1,000 down payment (whichever is larger) and complete 59 hours of homeowner education. The house is sold to the family at cost with a long-term affordable mortgage. This is made possible through grants such the one awarded by Greater Longview United Way.
LaJuan Gordon, CEO, NETXHFH said “We have been a partner agency of Greater Longview United Way since 1993. Together, we have improved financial security and created healthier homes for hundreds of individuals. Partnerships are a powerful force for good. We look forward to working with the United Way to do good for our neighbors long into the future.”
