WACO – Men’s soccer players Johan Arevalo and Juan Rodriguez, and women’s soccer player Mitzy Guereca garnered Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards for the week of Sept. 5-11.

Arevalo was named the RRAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Juan Rodriguez was recognized as the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week. Guereca was tabbed as the RRAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Arevalo accounted for a goal and an assist in the Bulldogs’ 1-1 tie with Central Baptist College (Ark.). The sophomore forward from Mission, Texas, scored three points as JCU moved to 2-1-1 on the season. Arevalo is ranked among the top five in the RRAC with a pair of goals and five points this season.

Rodriguez was key to the Bulldogs in their tie with CBC and their 5-1 victory over Dallas Christian College. The junior defender from Dayton, Texas, helped limit CBC to five shots on goal and DCC to three.

Guereca delivered three goals and three assists in a 2-0 week for the Bulldogs. The junior midfielder from Fort Worth, Texas, provided an assist in a 3-1 win over Central Baptist College (Ark.), and she found the net three times and assisted on two other goals in a 9-0 trouncing of Dallas Christian College (Texas). Guereca is tied for second in the RRAC in goals (3) and points (9). JCU evened its record at 2-2.

Women’s soccer returns to action today (Tuesday) as they host Arkansas-PineBluff for a 1 p.m. match at home. The men are back on the field Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against North American. The women will also play North American on Saturday at 1 p.m.
