JCU MEN’S SOCCER USES LATE RALLY TO PLAY TO 2-2 DRAW

HAWKINS – Kevin Ochoa scored in the 79th minute and Johan Arevalo followed with a goal in the 87th minute as the Jarvis Christian University men’s soccer team used a late comeback to earn a 2-2 draw with Central Baptist College on Thursday afternoon at the Jarvis Soccer Stadium.

 

JCU moves to 1-1-1 on the season while Central Baptist moves to 3-1-1.

 

Daniel Pinkney scored both goals for the Mustangs. He booted in the first goal of the day in the 13th minute to give the Mustangs an early advantage. Coming out of the half, Pinkney struck again in the 51st minute to extend the Mustang lead to 2-0.

 

Central Baptist had control of the game until the last 10 minutes when the Bulldogs rallied to tie the game. The rally started as Ochoa scored on a header in the 79th minute. He was assisted by Arevalo as the Bulldogs cut the Mustangs’ lead in half, 2-1.

 

Just under nine minutes later, Arevalo scored on an assist by Gerardo Martinez to tie the game. The goal marks Arevalo’s third on the season.

 

On the offensive side, the Bulldogs outshot the Mustangs, 24-15. Arevalo and Ochoa each had four shots in the game. Ochoa had three shots on goal compared to Arevalo’s two shots on goal. Kyang Dieu Merci and Martinez each took three shots.

 

Goalkeeper Avramov Vladimir had three saves and allowed two goals through 90 minutes on the field.

The Bulldogs are back on their home field to host Dallas Christian College at 2 p.m. Saturday.
