Breaking: FBI raids Mar-a-Lago: Trump confirms ‘my home was under siege by large group of agents who even broke into my safe’ | 8 Aug 2022 | Donald Trump says his Mar-a-Lago home has been raided by the FBI. “These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents. Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before,” he said in statement Monday night. “After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate.” It is unclear what the raid is for, what kind of warrant is being executed and what agents are seeking. Trump said: “It is prosecutorial misconduct, the weaponization of the Justice System, and an attack by Radical Left Democrats who desperately don’t want me to run for President in 2024, especially based on recent polls, and who will likewise do anything to stop Republicans and Conservatives in the upcoming Midterm Elections. Such an assault could only take place in broken, Third-World Countries. Sadly, America has now become one of those Countries, corrupt at a level not seen before. They even broke into my safe! What is the difference between this and Watergate, where operatives broke into the Democrat National Committee? Here, in reverse, Democrats broke into the home of the 45th President of the United States [Hunter Biden was seen on tape smoking crack and having sex with (alleged) underage girls. Paul Pelosi has made millions on (alleged) inside trades. And the FBI raids the home of the former president of the United States to stop him from running in 2024? This is insane, and the people will NOT STAND FOR IT! –LRP]
Trump wins CPAC straw poll with more than two-thirds of the vote | 6 Aug 2022 | Former President Trump won a comfortable majority of the vote in the Conservative Political Action Conference’s (CPAC) straw poll, maintaining his position as the favorite for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Organizers announced at CPAC’s convention in Texas that Trump won 69 percent of the vote, followed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) with 24 percent. Trump expanded his lead from the last CPAC straw poll in February, when he received the support of 59 percent of voting attendees to DeSantis’s 28 percent.
Insane in the membrane! Pentagon doles out another $1 billion in Ukraine aid | 8 Aug 2022 | The US Department of Defense has announced its largest military aid package for Kiev since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in February, planning an additional $1 billion in weapons shipments to the former Soviet republic. The latest batch of weaponry was approved under Joe Biden’s so-called “drawdown authority,” the 18th such package for Ukraine, the Pentagon said on Monday. It will include more ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers that the US previously sent to Ukraine, as well as 1,000 Javelin anti-tank missiles, C-4 explosives, Claymore anti-personnel mines, and tens of thousands of artillery and anti-aircraft rounds. The Pentagon also plans to provide 50 armored medical treatment vehicles, plus more pallets of medical supplies and equipment. Biden has now approved about $9.8 billion in military aid to Kiev since he took [literally, *took*] office in January 2021.
Democrats’ ‘Inflation Reduction’ Bill Will Increase IRS Agents by 87,000 Employees | 7 Aug 2022 | The Senate on Sunday passed the Democrats’ sweeping economic package that would allocate billions of taxpayer dollars to facilitate the expansion of the Internal Revenue Service’s workforce. The IRS would receive $80 billion if H.R. 5376, the $750 billion “Inflation Reduction [sic] Act” passes the House and lands on Biden’s desk. The funding would mark a 600 percent increase from 2021 when the bureau received $12.6 billion. The reconciliation package would also double the current IRS workforce by hiring an additional 87,000 employees to the bureau’s staff of 78,661 employees. At 165,661 employees, the IRS is poised to become larger than the Pentagon, State Department, FBI and Border Patrol combined total employees of 158,779.
Senate Democrats Pass Biden’s Massive Tax-and-Spend Bill – Kamala Harris Casts Tie-Breaking Vote | 7 Aug 2022 | Senate Democrats on Sunday passed Joe Biden’s massive tax-and-spend bill dubbed the ‘Inflation Reduction Act.’ The bill was passed in a 51-50 party-line vote after a 2-day vote-a-rama. Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote. The bill, which passed the senate through budget reconciliation, will head to the House of Representatives for a Friday vote. More than 230 economists wrote letters to Congress warning that the ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ will make inflation worse.
Los Angeles voters to decide if private businesses will be forced to house the homeless, despite safety concerns | 7 Aug 2022 | Los Angeles voters will cast their ballot on a proposal that could force private businesses – hotels – to house the homeless, a policy that has many hotel owners concerned about how it will impact public safety. President of the Northeast Los Angeles Hotel Owners Association Ray Patel joined Fox & Friends Weekend” Sunday to discuss why the policy is not a long-term solution and his worry if the policy is adopted. “This is not a solution, it’s just a temporary fix,” Patel said. “And during Project Roomkey, a great example, they housed the unhoused in the hotels — but the government never provided an end solution. They never provided transitional services to permanent housing; and simply issuing hotel vouchers impacting our hotels and our marketability of those rooms to the pain tourist, corporate travelers and locals is not a solution now.”
Mega barf alert *and* gag me with a chainsaw: ‘To me, Liz Cheney is Obi-Wan Kenobi,’ says WaPo columnist on PBS News Hour | 7 Aug 2022 | Washington Post and MSNBC contributor Jonathan Capehart compared Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and former President Trump to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader in “Star Wars” on Friday. Capehart and New York Times columnist David Brooks appeared on “PBS News Hour” with Judy Woodruff to discuss various topics, including Cheney’s upcoming primary. Brooks called Cheney “a hero,” but noted she is behind her Republican challenger by more than 22 percent and likely to lose her seat. That’s when Capehart praised her as comparable to a beloved Jedi. “And, look, I keep thinking about the scene in ‘Star Wars: Episode IV,’ when Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi are battling it out on the Death Star. And Obi-Wan says to Darth Vader, ‘If you strike me down, I will come back more powerful than you can imagine,'” Capehart said.
