Kilgore College, UT Tyler will sign agreement July 27 to provide Longview area with a four-year university student experience
Kilgore College and The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) will continue their long history of partnership and cooperation by signing an agreement for the Longview University Center (LUC) to provide the greater Longview community with a public four-year university student experience.
A press conference and signing are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at the LUC. All media members are invited to attend.
This unique partnership will guarantee seamless pathways to include dual credit and associate degree programs offered by KC to baccalaureate (and post- baccalaureate) degree programs offered by UT Tyler, with students having access to services from both educational institutions through a special dual admission.
“It’s a deep thread in our mission as an institution to promote partnerships through outreach to area schools and universities,” said Dr. Brenda S. Kays, KC president. “It’s always exciting when two educational institutions can work together for the benefit of students. We look forward to gathering data and working with appropriate community partners to assess the regional workforce needs and plan for appropriate program offerings at the LUC.”
KC and UT Tyler will also unveil a plan for students that explicitly outlines the courses to take to avoid any duplication in course offerings to ensure a seamless transition for students through appropriate pathways.
“I am excited to expand our partnership with Kilgore College to enhance our services to the greater Longview community. This partnership capitalizes on the strengths of both institutions to provide a cohesive path to a four-year degree, and this is valuable not only to the students, but to the community as well,” said UT Tyler President Kirk A. Calhoun, MD, FACP.
UT Tyler will utilize the $10 million funding from the Texas capital construction assistance projects (CCAP) for Longview University Center facility development and improvements to accommodate the partnership objectives.
