Champions for Children Receives Meadows Foundation Grant
The board of directors and staff at Champions for Children are excited to announce a $155,000 gift from The Meadows Foundation. The grant will be used to increase Champions’ capacity to serve more clients and reduce wait times for potential clients — part of a larger community effort to increase access to mental health services for all children and families in the East Texas area.
Additionally, this grant will support the ongoing development of quality mental health practitioners by providing opportunities for student counselors to train and develop their skills through hands-on training. To do so, Champions for Children will be seeking a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S) to offer guidance and support to these students. Champions hopes to double the number of children and families it serves while reducing the wait time for initial visits for new clients by the year 2023.
“This generous donation from the Meadows Foundation will help us maintain our excellent record of caring for the developmental and mental healthcare needs of the youngest East Texans,” said Andria Horton, Champions for Children Executive Director. “The Meadows gift will aid the growth and success of Champions’ programs allowing us to increase the clients we see with less wait time, additional staff and inviting facilities. It will absolutely have a lasting impact for East Texas children. Children will be able to receive the loving, nurturing care they need as they begin learning, growing and preparing for school and for life and adult caregivers will receive the resources and tools they need to help the children in their care throughout their lives.”
