We join our fellow Texans in mourning the murdered children and teachers in Uvalde last week. We looked to the parents of children who died in past school shootings to advise on what the families in Uvalde need and they say financial assistance is helpful and needed. El Chico Empire Began in Kaufman

Adelaida Cuellar began selling chili and tamales in 1926 at the Kaufman County Fair to supplement the income of her large family with 12 children. Adelaida later became known as Mama Cuellar and a few decades later two of her sons launched a restaurant in Oak Cliff that began the El Chico restaurant empire. READ MORE.

Annual Powwow Continues at Texas’ Oldest Reservation

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe is hosting its 52nd Annual Powwow June 3 and 4. The oldest Indian reservation in Texas convenes at Reservation Ballpark in the heart of the Big Thicket after a two-year pandemic hiatus.

The event features dancing and drum competitions with dozens of costumed dancers in full regalia. It draws hundreds of participants and leaders from Texas and around the U.S. READ MORE.
