(AUSTIN, TEXAS) May 10, 2022 — Scenic Texas, the state’s only non-profit organization dedicated solely to the preservation and enhancement of the visual environment, today announced Brenda Dees as its newest executive director.
Dees brings more than 25 years of experience as a nonprofit sector leader, including in her most recent role as executive director who first started the CASA programs of Bee, Live Oak, McMullen and San Patricio Counties. Her previous experience includes serving as executive director of AVANCE of Corpus Christi and working in various other capacities, including as an educator and counselor.
“I am honored to build upon the 40 years of progress Scenic Texas has made to enhance and preserve the scenic character of our communities in this great state,” said Dees. “As a lifelong Texan, this is a wonderful opportunity to champion the beauty and wonder of our state.”
Dees plans to use her experience as an educator to promote the Scenic City planning resources and certification program to community leaders and planners in order to implement and maintain high-quality scenic standards for public roadways and public spaces.
“Brenda’s passion for our state and her visionary plans for advancing Scenic Texas’ mission made her a natural choice,” said board chair Jason Wills. “She is a proud Texan and experienced nonprofit leader at heart. Her track record of effective, sustainable growth will help further expand our impact throughout the state as we plant trees and wildflowers and protect our roadways and vistas from visual clutter.”
Dees graduated from Corpus Christi State University Texas A & I University and obtained her Master of Science at Corpus Christi State University. Born in Freer, Texas, she has always been passionate about being a Texan and working with nonprofits.
As executive director at CASA for more than six years, Brenda was responsible for the organization’s operations, fiscal management, fundraising, board and staff collaborations, and strategic plans. She initiated the expansion of CASA, serving a new county after only three years in operation and establishing satellite offices in a different geographic location, expanding services to seven different cities and tripling the organization’s revenue.
Scenic Texas, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of our state’s visual environment, particularly as seen by the traveling public.
