CDC Tracked Millions of Phones to See If Americans Followed COVID Lockdown Orders –Newly released documents showed the CDC planned to use phone location data to monitor schools and churches, and wanted to use the data for many non-COVID-19 purposes, too. | 3 May 2022 | The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) bought access to location data harvested from tens of millions of phones in the United States to perform analysis of compliance with curfews, track patterns of people visiting K-12 schools, and specifically monitor the effectiveness of policy in the Navajo Nation, according to CDC documents obtained by Motherboard. The documents also show that although the CDC used COVID-19 as a reason to buy access to the data more quickly, it intended to use it for more-general CDC purposes. Location data is information on a device’s location sourced from the phone, which can then show where a person lives, works, and where they went.
20 Republican-led states threaten legal action against DHS, urge disbanding of ‘un-American’ disinfo board –The attorneys general of 20 states say the DHS disinformation board is having a ‘chilling effect’ on free speech | 5 May 2022 | Republican-led states are threatening legal action against Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) new “Disinformation Governance Board,” [Ministry of Truth] which they deem “un-American” and chilling to the free speech of Americans. Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares is leading GOP attorneys general in sending a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Thursday demanding that the department “cease taking action” contributing to a “chilling effect” on free speech. “This is an unacceptable and downright alarming encroachment on every citizen’s right to express his or her opinions, engage in political debate, and disagree with the government,” write the 20 attorneys general in a letter exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital.
FBI pulls clearances of employees at Jan. 6 rally before Capitol riot – Rep. Jordan | 6 May 2022 | The FBI is suspending the security clearances of employees who attended the rally before last year’s Capitol riot, according to a prominent Republican congressman. The alleged punishment is drawing accusations that FBI staffers who aren’t charged with crimes are having their First Amendment rights trampled. The FBI’s move was described in a Friday letter from the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee. “One such targeted employee is [redacted] working in the FBI’s [redacted] who also honorably served in the United States military for over 20 years,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) wrote to FBI Director Christopher Wray.
Trump’s lawsuit over Twitter ban dismissed by federal judge | 6 May 2022 | A federal judge in San Francisco has dismissed a lawsuit from former President Trump against Twitter, challenging the social media company for banning himself and others from the platform. U.S. District Court Judge James Donato granted Twitter’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit on Friday. Danto is allowing lawyers for Trump to file an amended complaint that is “consistent with this order” by May 27, and added that it cannot contain any new claims or defendants without prior permission from the court. The lawsuit alleged that Twitter violated the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, claimed that Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act is unconstitutional, and also alleged that Twitter used “deceptive and misleading practices” that are in violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
Insane in the membrane: Biden announces additional $150 million in military aid to Ukraine –Biden has urged Congress to approve his $33 billion request for additional assistance | 6 May 2022 | The United States will send an additional 150 million security assistance package to Ukraine, including “tailored” equipment that will help the country defend itself against Russian forces. Equipment being sent to Ukraine includes 25,000 155mm artillery rounds, 3 AN/TPQ-36 counter-artillery radars, electronic jamming equipment, field equipment, and spare parts, according to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby. Kirby said that the United States has committed approximately 4.5 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since Joe Biden took office in January 2021, and 3.8 billion since Russia began their [operation to stop Ukraine from attacking Donbass again].
FDA restricts Johnson & Johnson’s COVID vaccine due to blood clot risk –The FDA made the move after revisiting data on the risk of life-threatening blood clots within two weeks of vaccination. | 5 May 2022 | U.S. regulators on Thursday strictly limited who can receive Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine due to the ongoing risk of rare but serious blood clots. The Food and Drug Administration said the shot should only be given to adults who cannot receive a different vaccine or specifically request J&J’s vaccine. U.S. authorities for months have recommended that Americans starting their COVID-19 vaccinations use the Pfizer or Moderna shots instead. FDA officials said in a statement that they decided to restrict J&J’s vaccine after taking another look at data on the risk of life-threatening blood clots within two weeks of vaccination.
Stock carnage: Dow drops 1,063 points, Nasdaq off 5%, S&P down 3.5% –Elon Musk has secured $7B for Twitter financing | 5 May 2022 | U.S. stocks tanked Thursday, posting the worst session since 2020 as the yield on the 10-Year Treasury rose to 3.066%. The S&P 500 fell 3.5%, and the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 5%, while Dow Jones Industrial Average slid over 1,059 points or 3%. All 11 of the S&P’s largest sectors fell, led by consumer discretionary, technology and materials. The slide came as worker productivity fell to its lowest level since 1947, falling 7.5% in the first quarter, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Dow tumbles 1,000 points for the worst day since 2020, Nasdaq drops 5% | 4 May 2022 | Stocks pulled back sharply on Thursday, completely erasing a rally from the prior session in a stunning reversal that delivered investors one of the worst days since 2020. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1,063 points, or 3.12%, to close at 32,997.97. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 4.99% to finish at 12,317.69, a fresh closing low for the year. Both of those losses were the worst single-day drops since 2020. The S&P 500 fell 3.56% 4,146.87, marking its second worst day of the year.
Amazon seeks tax breaks for 5 new data centers, worth $12 billion, in remote Oregon county | 5 May 2022 | Amazon plans to build at least five new data centers along the Columbia River in remote Morrow County, a nearly 12 billion project that would more than double the scale of the company’s operations in the region. The undertaking represents one of the largest capital projects in Oregon history — in one of the state’s smallest communities. Most of the data centers’ value is exempt from local taxation, though, so Amazon saves far more than it pays. The company secured tax breaks in Morrow County worth 161 million over the past five years – 47 million in just the last year. And before proceeding with its next project, Amazon wants a new package of tax breaks that would save the company hundreds of millions of d-llars more over the next 15 years. That’s generating fresh scrutiny in the county and its largest city, Boardman, over whether Amazon is paying its fair share.
White House won’t stop activists from going to Supreme Court justices’ homes –White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said she had no ‘official US government position on where people protest’ | 5 May 2022 | The White House on Thursday declined to encourage abortion activists to avoid protesting at the private residences of Supreme Court justices as outrage over a leaked draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade grows. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Joe Biden understands and shares the outrage over the news that the Supreme Court may vote to undo Roe, which essentially legalized abortion nationwide. Several heated protests have occurred in front of the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., following the leak of Justice Samuel Alito’s draft opinion that would undo Roe, prompting police to put up barriers around the building.
Pro-Abortion Group Publicizes Conservative Supreme Court Justices’ Home Addresses ahead of Planned Protests | 5 May 2022 | In response to the Monday night leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade, a leftist group called Ruth Sent Us posted what it claims are the home addresses of the Court’s six conservative justices online in preparation for an organized “walk-by protest” set to take place outside the justices’ homes next week. Ruth Sent Us plans to dispatch demonstrators to “the homes of the six extremist justices” on Wednesday, May 11, according to the group’s website. In collaboration with Vigil for Democracy, Ruth Sent Us generated and posted a Google Maps graphic pinning what it claims are the home addresses of Justices Barrett, Kavanaugh, Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, and Roberts, where they presumably reside with their families. Vigil for Democracy titled the map, “Extremist Justices,” adding, “where the six Christian fundamentalist Justices issue their shadow docket rulings.”
Georgia Judge Rules Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Qualified for Reelection | 6 May 2022 | A Georgia judge ruled on Friday that Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) is qualified to run for reelection after a liberal organization has filed a lawsuit seeking to ban Rep. Greene from reelection. State Judge Charles Beaudrot dismissed the lawsuit, saying the “challengers have produced insufficient evidence to show that Rep. Greene ‘engaged’ in that insurrection after she took the oath of office on January 3, 2021.” “The burden of proof in this matter is on Challengers. Challengers have failed to prove their case by a preponderance of the evidence…Therefore, the Court holds that Respondent is qualified to be a candidate for Representative for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District,” Judge Beaudrot said in a 19-page recommendation.
All 22 candidates in Ohio and Indiana whom Trump endorsed won their primaries –“I was 22 and 0,” Trump told Fox News. “I won every race.” | 4 May 2022 | Former President Trump touted victories for the nearly two dozen candidates he endorsed who won their primary races in Ohio and Indiana Tuesday night, predicting the night was just the beginning of a “tremendous season” for Republicans he supports. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Trump said it was “a really great night for Republicans.” “I was 22 and 0,” Trump told Fox News. “I won every race.” The 22 candidates in Ohio and Indiana whom Trump endorsed won their primaries Tuesday night, including JD Vance, the venture capitalist and bestselling author of Hillbilly Elegy. Vance secured Trump’s endorsement in Ohio’s crowded GOP Senate primary less than three weeks ago.
Trump-Endorsed Max Miller Wins Ohio Republican US House Primary | 3 May 2022 | Max Miller, a former aide to former President Donald Trump, won the Ohio Republican primary on May 3, according to multiple projections. Miller drew 71.5 percent of the vote as of 10:27 p.m. with 62 percent of the districts reporting. Trump had endorsed Miller when he was running against Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (R-Ohio), who was one of a small group of Republicans who had voted to impeach Trump. Gonzales later quit the race and announced his retirement from Congress.
Bill to allow undocumented immigrants to get driver’s license passes Massachusetts State Senate –Undocumented immigrants would be able to obtain a standard Massachusetts license, not a Real ID. | 5 May 2022 | A bill to allow undocumented immigrants to get a driver’s license in Massachusetts is all but law Thursday, passing the Senate with a large enough margin to overrule a veto from Gov. Charlie Baker. The vote was 32 to 8, with five Democrats voting with the chamber’s Republicans against the bill, State House News Service (SHNS) reported. The margin was still more than the two-thirds majority needed to override a veto from the governor. The Massachusetts House passed a bill allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain a driver’s license in the state in February by a margin that would override a veto as well, according to SHNS.
Biden torched for reminiscing about ‘the old days’ of having lunch with ‘real segregationists’ in the Senate | 6 May 2022 | Joe Biden raised eyebrows during his trip to Ohio when he reminisced about his time in the Senate when he broke bread with “real segregationists.” Biden visited the United Performance Metals facility in Hamilton and was accompanied by both Ohio senators, Democrat Sherrod Brown and outgoing Republican Rob Portman. “You know, things have kind of changed since I first got there… I got elected there when I was 29 years old to the United States Senate from a very modest background. And I was there for 36 years before becoming vice president,” Biden said Friday. “We always used to fight like h-ll even back in the old days when we had real segregationists like Eastland and Thurmond, all those guys, but we ended up eating lunch together. Things have changed. We got to bring it back.”
