Texas Mutual Insurance Company will award a $100,000 grant for the 15th straight year to Kilgore College to continue funding the college’s Risk Management Institute that provides free workplace safety courses for community employers, workers and the general public.
Representatives from Texas Mutual will officially present the funding to KC at a check presentation set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, on the second floor of the McLaurin Administration Building on the Kilgore campus.
KC is one of 11 colleges statewide receiving education safety grants from Texas Mutual, the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance.
“We are grateful to receive this grant from our partners at Texas Mutual who share our commitment to the prevention of workplace accidents and to overall workplace safety,” said Dr. Brenda Kays, KC president. “Thanks to this grant, our growing risk management program will continue to help workers in Kilgore and across Texas to be more prepared and successful on the job, creating safer work environments for employees.”
Over a 23-year period, Texas Mutual has awarded $11 million in safety education grants and more than 35,000 students have attended free or discounted safety training offered at various colleges.
Over the past year alone, the KC Risk Management Institute hosted 58 workplace safety classes for 613 attendees and 407 individuals received OSHA training cards through available courses.
“For more than two decades, we have proudly partnered with colleges across Texas in providing their local communities access to safety programs,” said Eric Bourquin, vice president of safety services at Texas Mutual. “We know that a strong workforce is a safe one, and we’re proud to continue investing in these programs on our journey to create a stronger, safer Texas.”
