Winnsboro Center for the Arts Presents The Geoff Clapp Trio
Winnsboro Center for the Arts (WCA) is pleased to present The Geoff Clapp Trio on the Bowery Stage at 7:30 pm on April 9 at 200 Market St. Winnsboro, Texas. The musical trio consists of percussionist Geoff Clapp, saxophonist Kari Allen Lee, and pianist Fredrick Sanders.
Clapp describes his drum style as “heady New York and soulful New Orleans.” He has played and toured with many musicians including Donald Harrison, Terence Blanchard, Wynton Marsalis, Jason Marsalis from Vibes, and Rob Blake from SNL, just to name a few. Clapp was also active with Wynton Marsalis’ Lincoln Center educational programs in the five boroughs of New York City, as well as with Melissa Walker’s Jazz House Kids with Christian McBride workshops in the New Jersey inner-city school system. Currently, Clapp continues to tour, educate, and record music.
As one of New Orleans’ most-in-demand artists, saxophonist, educator, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Lee has performed and recorded with such luminaries as Aretha Franklin, DeeDee Bridgewater, and Stevie Wonder. He is the lead saxophonist and touring member of Delfeayo Marsalis’ Uptown Jazz Orchestra, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra directed by Adonis Rose, and is presently on the faculty at Loyola University following his extended tenure at the prestigious New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA).
Sanders’ masterful piano style, replete with youthful yet seasoned chords, has been enthusiastically enjoyed by audiences ranging from elementary school students to heads of state. He is well versed in a variety of modern jazz styles which include New Orleans Trad, New Orleans Brass Band, Swing, Bop, and Avant-garde. Sanders is currently the Commercial Music professor at Cedar Valley College in Dallas, the instructor of jazz piano at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a piano instructor for Keys4Kids through the Dallas Jazz Piano Society and is the Head of Jazz Studies at his Alma Mater Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
