JIM “PAPPY” MOORE: Warning – UltraAV May be Scamming You
By Jim “Pappy” Moore
This is a warning to everyone online who has used Kaspersky Anti-Virus protection on any of your computers or other devices. It is based upon current events and recent activities I have had with a successor company to Kaspersky.
In case you are unaware, Kaspersky was barred from doing business in the United States of America. Here is a link where you can read about it. https://www.pcmag.com/news/us-biden-expected-to-ban-kaspersky-antivirus-software-over-russian-ties.
“The White House has made the ban official by banning the sale, resale, and licensing of any Kaspersky security products or services within the US or by US persons.
The Commerce Department called the sales ban the “first of its kind” following a lengthy investigation into the antivirus provider. It found “that the company’s continued operations in the United States presented a national security risk—due to the Russian Government’s offensive cyber capabilities and capacity to influence or direct Kaspersky’s operations— that could not be addressed through mitigation measures short of a total prohibition.”
In short, Kaspersky – a Russian firm – is considered a security risk and has therefore been banned from doing business in the United States.
So imagine that Kaspersky made a deal with another foreign firm and that the entity contacted current Kaspersky customers in the USA, demanding that they renew their contracts with them as the successor to Kaspersky, apparently due do some dealings between Kaspersky and the new company – UltraAV.
Imagine you receive a notice from UltraAV telling you they want to renew your contract and charge your credit card on file from last year. Imagine you check with your IT guy who said he would not use them. Now imagine you told UltraAV you would not do business with them, that you would not pay them, and that you wanted them to remove all their connections to your computers.
Instead, they charge your credit card without authorization, after being told they were not authorized to do so, and that you did not have any agreement with them.
Can a crook sell their business to a company which knows the crook has been put out of business in the USA to another foreign concern, and then that foreign concern – which knows all about the crooked company – claim to stand in the shoes of the crook, and not be a crook, too?
The sad part is UltraAV advertises itself as a company which provides security for online transactions. After I told them NOT to renew my services, to remove their connections to my devices, and not to charge my credit card account, they did so without my authorization.
When I got the notice, I immediately (within 10 minutes) contacted my credit card company and filed a FRAUD claim against UltraAV. I canceled the card and instructed them to get back any money they had paid UltraAV.
I’m telling you so that you know if you have Kaspersky or UltraAV, you might want to reconsider and take whatever actions you feel may protect you. I’m appalled at their conduct. I believe they should be criminally prosecuted, but it will be up to the Attorney General of Texas and the Attorney General of the USA to make that decision.
I felt I should get the word out. If they are doing it to me, they’re doing to others on a mass scale. It’s shady. It’s wrong. And you should know about it.
