Caylee Potter Earns Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Award
Caylee Potter earned the most prestigious volunteer award through her community service work in Upshur County.
She submitted the application for the award through Girl Scouts of North East Texas, though a lot of the volunteer work happened through her county 4-H.
She logged 258 plus community service hours.
Caylee took the initiative for a take action project to build and place blessing boxes for food and personal care items in parts of the county that did not have access to one. She and her family built and placed them in Ore City at DeBerry Propane, and at the Divine Grace Pharmacy in Diana. The Upshur County 4-H provide materials and commissioner Dustin Nicholson provided the properties for them to be placed on.
Caylee collects items and fills the boxes weekly with an average of two hours of service per week. She also volunteered at the
East Texas regional food bank sorting items for distribution last summer.
She volunteered 120 hours alone as a child care worker for her martial arts studio ProComp Sport Martial Arts during their summer day camp.
She took part in cleaning up the Gilmer square as a part of a take action project for Girl Scouts.
She sprang into action to help her fellow residents in Upshur County when a devastating tornado ripped through her town. She delivered food, cleaned debris, and helped salvage items for homeowners.
When the County Library was in danger of losing their children’s wing temporarily to house displaced court house offices,
she enlisted the help of her homeschool community through a social media campaign to go to the commissioners court to voice their concerns and save the library.
She is very active in the community, as well as her church. She has a servant’s heart and always volunteers to help out where needed.
