UT Tyler Charter School Earns TIA Designation by Texas Education Agency
TYLER, Texas (February 14, 2024) – The University of Texas at Tyler University Academy has been approved for the Teacher Incentive Allotment, or TIA, by the Texas Education Agency.
This approval provides UA with nearly $200,000 dollars to recognize TEA Designated Teachers this year. TEA Designated teachers will receive 80% of the funds, while 10% will be used to recognize the work of UA school aides. The remaining 10% will be utilized for resources to support the requirements within TIA. The inaugural amounts will be disbursed in June.
“This TIA designation speaks volumes about the quality and hard work our teachers put in and the impact they have on the lives of our students,” said Dr. Pradeep “Max” Dass, UT Tyler College of Education and Psychology dean.
UA submitted the collected data of 45 teachers, of which 25, or 55%, received official designations from TEA as Recognized, Master or Designated Teacher. Out of the first cohort of teachers who received designation, 70% are graduates or current students of UT Tyler.
“The Teacher Incentive Allotment not only acknowledges the exceptional efforts of our teaching staff but also reinforces our commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement,” said UA superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Simmons.
Only 25% of districts in the state currently hold this designation, according to the Texas Charter School Association.
The UT Tyler University Academy provides free, innovative and rigorous K-12 education using Project-Based Learning designed to prepare students for university study and the STEM workforce.
