Op-Ed: Texas Organizations Demand Action, Call on Elected Leaders to Deliver Meaningful Change

NOVEMBER 4, 2026

Texas – The people have spoken. Our air, our water, our land, and our lives are not for sale.

Billionaire donors like Elon Musk and data center CEOs tried to buy this election, but the power of organized people is stronger than the power of organized money. For 30 years, Texas prioritized the fossil fuel industry, big tech billionaires, and polluting corporations over the needs of everyday Texans, leaving our schools, parks, roads, hospitals, and electric grid radically underfunded. But no more.

Texans deserve a future where our families are safe and healthy, our land is protected, and we can afford to live. For years, Texans have worked to make that future possible. We call on Texas’ newly elected leaders to meet this historic moment with the energy and bravery that honors that work. It’s time to show the world what Texans are made of.

The Texas Legislature, led by Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa and Lt. Governor-elect Vikki Goodwin, along with all other elected members of the Texas House and Senate, have the power to create meaningful change for our state. We call on them to prioritize legislation that:

  • Invests in a 21st century energy economy that lowers our bills and creates good-paying, family-supporting jobs without sacrificing what’s important to Texans.
  • Creates meaningful accountability for dirty industries that pollute and waste our water, poison our air, harm our families, and raise our utility bills.
  • Strengthens local control and brings the public into decisions that directly affect their communities.

It’s time for Texas leadership to be accountable to those who elected them – and deliver on campaign promises that united Texans under the singular idea that we deserve better.
