TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES DAY HONORS THE DEDICATION AND SERVICE OF COACHES

SAN MARCOS, TX — The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) will recognize Texas High School Coaches Day on Friday, November 6, 2026, honoring the coaches who serve students and communities throughout the state. Established through Texas Senate Concurrent Resolution 38 to occur annually on the first Friday in November, this observance recognizes the dedication and contributions of Texas high school and middle school coaches to education-based athletics.

Texas High School Coaches Day honors the coaches that help student-athletes develop the skills and values they need to succeed in life beyond competition. Through their work in athletics, the classroom, and their communities, coaches emphasize accountability, teamwork, perseverance, and respect, preparing young people to navigate challenges both during and after their athletic careers.

“The impact of a coach reaches far beyond the playing field,” said Joe Martin, Executive Director of the THSCA. “Coaches invest in their student-athletes every day, helping them develop character, take responsibility, and become leaders. Texas High School Coaches Day is an opportunity to recognize the men and women across our state who dedicate their time and energy to helping young people reach their potential.”

To mark the occasion, the THSCA encourages schools, communities, and student-athletes to recognize their coaches through social media tributes, school activities, and personal messages of thanks. Professional athletes who competed in Texas high school sports, including Colt McCoy, a Jim Ned High School alumnus; Courtland Sutton, a Brenham High School alumnus; and Kayla Thornton, an Irvin High School alumna, have also shared videos expressing gratitude for the coaches who influenced their journeys. These tributes highlight the importance of recognizing coaches for the guidance and encouragement they provide, both during their athletes’ playing careers and long after.
