Hwy 154 barricades to remain in place because of road repairs
Johnathon Nix Public Works Director with the City of Gilmer last night instructing the Yamboree Association to leave all barricades and signage in pertaining to Hwy 154 in place. As you know in the past, we have always strived to have 154 open by noon.
The continued closing is not the decision of the Yamboree Association but understands the repairs are necessary for the betterment of the roads.
Randy Hill, Director of Midway and concessions, East Texas Yamboree Association.
Late yesterday afternoon, TxDOT notified the City of an opportunity to begin the long-awaited intersection paving project along State Highway 154 W on Monday. Please see the below list of affected intersections.
To complete this work, the Yamboree highway closure will be extended for four additional days, until Thursday, 10/22/2026. The existing detour signs will remain in place during that time.
We understand this extension will affect local businesses, school routes, and daily travel. Keeping the highway closed allows crews to work more efficiently and provides a faster, safer way to complete these improvements. We apologize for any inconvenience and will remove the detour as soon as the work is complete.
For the intersections outside of the detour zone, the construction crews will work on them once the detour is removed. However, their work will still have an impact on traffic flow, so plan your trips accordingly.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as this long-awaited project moves forward. Please follow the posted detour signs and use caution near the construction area.
Thank you,
Mary Bullock – City Manager
