SAU’s Light for the Fight ceremony set for October 12

News from Southern Arkansas University

MAGNOLIA, AR (10/07/2026) SAU’s Light for the Fight ceremony set for Oct. 12

The David F. Rankin College of Business at Southern Arkansas University will host its annual Light for the Fight ceremony on Monday, October 12, at 6 p.m. in the Blanchard Fountain Courtyard.

Held during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the ceremony brings together the campus and community to remember those lost to cancer, honor survivors, and support those currently facing the disease. The event is free and open to the public.

“Light for the Fight began in 2011 when students wanted to recognize and honor the wife of a business faculty member who was battling breast cancer,” said Dr. Gerald Plumlee, dean of the Rankin College of Business. “Since then, the event has grown, and community members and organizations reach out each fall to find out when we’re having the ceremony and how they can become involved. Although I wish we didn’t have the need for this, it has become a community event in which we come together to honor and remember those affected by cancer.”

Luminaries are available for $5 each and may be purchased in honor or memory of friends and family members affected by cancer. All proceeds will benefit the Steel Magnolias Breast Cancer Support Group in Magnolia.

Light pink luminaries will remember loved ones lost to breast cancer, while dark pink luminaries will honor breast cancer survivors and those currently undergoing treatment. Light purple luminaries will remember those lost to other types of cancer, and dark purple luminaries will honor survivors and those currently battling other cancers.

Luminaries may be purchased online at https://web.saumag.edu/business/light-for-the-fight/.
