SWEPCO Encourages Customers to Stay Safe During Extreme Heat

SHREVEPORT, La. (August 17, 2026) – As dangerous temperatures continue across Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas, SWEPCO is taking additional steps to help customers stay safe and comfortable by suspending residential disconnections for nonpayment through the end of the week.

While customer protections and weather-related disconnection requirements vary by state, SWEPCO is taking a consistent approach across its service territory to support customers during this extended heat event.

“Heat moratorium rules vary by state, but our commitment to our customers doesn’t,” explained Paul Pratt, VP, Customer Experience and New Business Development. “Across Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas, we’re taking this step because helping customers stay safe and comfortable during extreme heat comes first. During periods of extreme heat, we want customers to stay cool and know that resources are available if they need additional support.”

As customers work to keep their homes comfortable during this stretch of extreme heat, energy use and charges will continue to accrue. Customers can monitor their usage through their online account and smart meter tools and are encouraged to contact SWEPCO early to explore bill assistance, flexible payment options and other support resources available to help manage future bills.

SWEPCO encourages customers to:

  • Stay hydrated.
  • Spend time in cool or air-conditioned spaces when possible.
  • Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Check on older adults, neighbors and others who may be vulnerable to heat-related illness.

Customers looking for ways to manage energy use and stay comfortable can find:

  • Comfort + Savings programs and energy-saving resources including energy-efficient products and discounts available through SWEPCOSolutions.com
  • Usage insights and tips available through their online account tools.
