Free Dallas Teen Driver Safety Class Offers Parents Back-to-School Help — and Students Chance to Win Free iPad

AAA Texas, City of Dallas Judiciary and MADD encourage families to attend Saturday safety event as teens return to school
As families settle into the back-to-school season, AAA Texas, the City of Dallas Judiciary and Mothers Against Drunk Driving are encouraging parents and teen drivers to attend a free Teen Driver Safety Class this Saturday in Dallas.

The class is designed to help teens and parents talk through the real risks young drivers face — including distraction, speeding, seat belt use and impaired driving — at a time when many students are returning to school routines, commuting to classes, driving to extracurricular activities or getting behind the wheel for the first time.

To encourage students to attend, participants will be eligible to enter a raffle drawing where one student will win a free iPad. A few other prizes will also be given away. Free refreshments and snacks will be provided.

“Back-to-school season is a critical time for families to talk about safe driving,” said Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas. “Motor vehicle crashes remain one of the leading causes of death and serious injury for teens, and parents play an important role in helping young drivers build safe habits before risky behaviors develop.”

The free class will take place Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fretz Park Recreation Center, 6950 Belt Line Road in Dallas. Registration will be available at the door.

Texas crash data highlight why teen driver safety remains such an important issue. From 2022 through the end of 2024, crashes involving a teen driver in Texas included:

  • 1,293 fatal crashes
  • 6,019 serious-injury crashes
  • 254,267 total crashes

The program will feature expert speakers, including representatives from MADD, who will speak with young drivers about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving. The class will also provide resources for parents and teens navigating the learning-to-drive process.

The event is free and open to teens, pre-permit teens and families.
