Colonial Village to Host Back-to-School Bash with Free Backpack Giveaway for Local Children

Aug. 8 event will provide 100 prefilled backpacks for local students and feature games, snow cones, face painting and family-friendly activities.

LONGVIEW, Texas – Colonial Village, a local senior living community, will host a Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon, offering free prefilled backpacks for local children as families prepare for the new school year.

The event will take place on the Colonial Village campus at 2910 North Eastman Road in Longview. A total of 100 backpacks will be available for children in pre-K through fifth grade on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Families are encouraged to arrive early. Each backpack will include school supplies such as paper, pencils, pens, erasers, folders, highlighters and markers. Supplies were collected through a school supply drive supported by Colonial Village residents and local third-party partners.

“We wanted to be a resource for families in our local community as students get ready to head back to school,” said Ta Deckard, Director of Sales at Colonial Village. “This is our first time hosting this event, and we are excited to welcome children and families to campus for a morning that is helpful, fun and community focused.”

The Back-to-School Bash will also include snow cones, cotton candy, cornhole, a balloon artist and face painting led by Colonial Village residents Betty Shepherd and Carolyn Jackson. Shepherd is a local artist whose work has been featured at the Longview Arboretum and who has earned several medals for her artwork.

“Having residents involved in the event makes it even more meaningful,” Deckard said. “Betty and Carolyn are sharing their creativity with children in the community, and that brings a special intergenerational element to the morning.”

Charlie’s Snowballs will provide snow cones for children during the event. Community partners supporting the Back-to-School Bash include Home-Aid Caregivers, Heart to Heart Hospice, Marshall Hospice, Premier Homecare, Bespoke Rehab, Harbor Hospice, Concho Hearts Hospice, Hospice of East Texas and Prime Care Hospice.

Guests may park in any open space in the front parking lot. The event begins at 10 a.m., and backpacks will be distributed while supplies last.
