Winnsboro Livestock Auction Sees 383 Head Cross the Block

WINNSBORO, Texas — Winnsboro Livestock and Dairy Auction moved 383 head of cattle and other livestock through the ring on July 31, with No. 1 steers and heifers under 300 pounds topping the price board.

Cattle Prices

Lighter-weight calves continued to command the strongest per-pound prices, a typical pattern as smaller calves draw more competitive bidding relative to their overall cost.

No. 1 Steers:

  • Under 300 lbs: $4.00–$6.00
  • 300–400 lbs: $3.50–$5.25
  • 400–500 lbs: $3.25–$5.00
  • 500–600 lbs: $3.00–$4.50
  • 600–700 lbs: $2.85–$4.00
  • 700–800 lbs: $2.75–$3.25

No. 1 Heifers:

  • Under 300 lbs: $3.85–$5.75
  • 300–400 lbs: $3.25–$5.00
  • 400–500 lbs: $3.00–$4.75
  • 500–600 lbs: $2.85–$4.25
  • 600–700 lbs: $2.70–$3.70
  • 700–800 lbs: $2.50–$3.15

Slaughter Cows and Packer Bulls

Slaughter cows were sorted by yield grade, with high-yielding cows bringing $1.30–$1.80 per pound, low-yielding cows at $1.15–$1.50, and thin and shelly cows rounding out the category at $0.60–$1.10.

Packer bulls weighing 1,250 to 2,075 pounds and grading Yield Grade 1 and 2 sold for $1.60–$2.15 per pound.

Pairs and Replacement Cattle

Cow-calf pairs drew strong money across the board:

  • Young pairs: $3,500–$4,500 per pair
  • Aged pairs: $2,000–$3,500 per pair
  • Split-to-be-weighed pairs: $2,200–$4,200 per pair

Baby Calves, Goats and Sheep

Rounding out the sale, baby calves brought $150–$1,200 per head, while goats and sheep sold for $75–$300 per head.

Winnsboro Livestock and Dairy Auction holds its regular stocker sale every Friday, with dairy sales held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. As always, plainer and lower-quality cattle sold below the figures listed above.
