Wayland sets record for Plainview campus applications for the Fall 2026 semester
PLAINVIEW, TX — Wayland Baptist University has received more applications for admission to its Plainview campus than at any point in the institution’s 117-year history, setting a record as the university prepares to welcome its Fall 2026 class.
As of July 15, Wayland had received more than 1,900 undergraduate applications for admission to the Plainview campus, surpassing the previous record set in 2024 — and applications are still being received with one month remaining until classes start.
“This milestone is about much more than a number,” said Dr. Donna Hedgepath, president of Wayland Baptist University. “Each application represents a student searching for a place where they can grow academically, deepen their faith, and prepare for a life of purpose. We are grateful that more students than ever are seeing Wayland as that place.”
She said the record reflects the university’s continued commitment to providing an affordable, Christ-centered education while preparing graduates to make a difference in their professions, churches and communities.
“We have remained focused on our mission while continually looking for ways to better serve today’s students,” Dr. Hedgepath said. “It is encouraging to see that commitment resonating with prospective students and their families.”
The record application total comes during a period of continued momentum for the university. During the past year, Wayland has expanded academic opportunities, announced new initiatives to improve affordability, invested in student success, and continued implementing its 2025-2030 strategic plan, RISE, which is designed to strengthen every aspect of the university while remaining firmly grounded in its Christian mission.
Dr. Daniel Brown, vice president of enrollment management, said the admissions team has seen strong interest from students seeking both academic quality and a campus community where they can thrive.
“Students today are looking for more than a degree,” Brown said. “They want a university that knows them by name, invests in their success, and helps prepare them for meaningful lives and careers. We believe Wayland offers that experience, and we’re excited to see so many students expressing their interest in becoming Pioneers.”
Applications are the first of several steps toward enrollment. Brown said the record applicant pool provides a strong foundation as enrollment coaches continue working with prospective students across the region and the state.
“Our work now is helping each student determine whether Wayland is the right fit for their educational journey,” Brown said. “We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to welcoming another outstanding class this fall.”
Applications for Fall admission continue to be accepted. The university expects to welcome its newest class when the Fall 2026 semester begins on Aug. 19.
