As Summer Temperatures Rise, SWEPCO Offers Ways to Manage Costs and Stay Comfortable

SHREVEPORT, La. (July 2, 2026) – Summer is bringing another round of hot and humid weather to the region, with heat index values expected to exceed 100 degrees in many communities. As customers look for ways to stay cool and comfortable, SWEPCO is highlighting available rebates, energy-saving opportunities and assistance programs that can help throughout the summer months.

When temperatures rise, air conditioners often run longer and more frequently to keep homes comfortable. For customers considering energy-efficiency upgrades – or those looking for help managing summer energy costs – SWEPCO offers a variety of resources designed to help.

“Keeping cool is important, especially during the hottest days of the year,” said Alexandria Coner, SWEPCO Energy Efficiency Marketing Coordinator. “Whether customers are making improvements around the house, replacing older equipment or looking for assistance programs, we want them to know there are resources available to help.”

Help Is Available

Customers who need assistance with summer energy costs may qualify for SWEPCO’s payment assistance programs, payment arrangements, prepaid service options or federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding.

To help connect customers with available assistance, a LIHEAP Mass Application Day for Miller County residents will be held Monday, July 6, at the We Are Washington Community Center in Texarkana, Arkansas. The event is open specifically to Miller County residents and will provide an opportunity to apply for available cooling assistance programs.

Additional information about assistance programs is available at SWEPCO.com/BillHelp.

If You’re Planning an Upgrade, Check for Rebates First

For customers already in the market for a new air conditioner, smart thermostat, water heater or other major appliance, SWEPCO encourages them to look for the ENERGY STAR® label and explore available rebates through SWEPCOSolutions.com/rebates before making a purchase.

With Fourth of July sales underway at many retailers, customers may find opportunities to pair sale pricing with qualifying SWEPCO incentives, helping reduce upfront costs on energy-efficient equipment. Rebate amounts and eligibility requirements vary by state. SWEPCO customers can learn more at SWEPCOSolutions.com.

Simple Ways to Stay Cool and Save Energy

Not every energy-saving improvement requires a major purchase. SWEPCO recommends a few simple steps that can help improve cooling efficiency during hot weather:

  • Set thermostats at the highest comfortable temperature.
  • Keep blinds and curtains closed during peak afternoon heat.
  • Replace air filters regularly.
  • Use ceiling fans to improve air circulation.
  • Seal air leaks around doors and windows.
  • Schedule routine maintenance for cooling equipment.

As summer temperatures continue to rise, SWEPCO encourages customers to stay informed, stay safe and take advantage of available rebates, energy-saving resources and assistance programs designed to help keep homes comfortable all season long.
