| The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.49 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is nine cents less when compared to this day last week and is 69 cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.85 per gallon while drivers in the San Antonio area are paying the least at $3.28 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.00, which is 13 cents less when compared to this day last week and 81 cents more when compared to this day last year. Oil markets remain sensitive to developments in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy supplies. Recent reports indicate crude prices have eased following signs of progress toward reopening the Strait, but analysts caution that it could take time for oil flows and production to fully normalize. Because crude oil accounts for a significant portion of what drivers pay at the pump, continued uncertainty could keep gasoline prices less predictable heading into the Independence Day travel period. AAA Texas projects 5.7 million Texans will travel at least 50 miles from home between Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, July 5. That is up 0.2% from 2025 and 10.3% higher than 2019. The number of Texans driving and flying is expected to remain relatively flat compared to last year, while travel by other modes, including cruises, buses and trains, is seeing the largest year-over-year increase.
