Texas Gas Prices Drop, But Summer Uncertainty Remains
The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.58 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is 14 cents less when compared to this day last week and is 83 cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.86 per gallon while drivers in the Sherman-Denison area are paying the least at $3.35 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.13, which is 11 cents less when compared to this day last week and $1.01 more when compared to this day last year.

Since May 21, gas prices in Texas have declined as crude oil prices have remained below $100 per barrel. While pump prices typically peak around this time of year, uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continues to make the summer outlook more unpredictable. Texas drivers are still paying some of the highest prices seen in four years, though current averages remain well below the record highs set in June 2022.

“Texas drivers are seeing some relief at the pump, but prices remain elevated compared to recent years,” said Daniel Armbruster spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Crude oil prices staying below $100 per barrel has helped push pump prices lower, but continued uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz means the market could remain volatile as the busy summer travel season gets underway.”
