Austin, TX – Women Veterans Day on June 12 commemorates the anniversary of legislation allowing women to serve as permanent, active members of the U.S. military making them eligible for VA benefits. Texas is home to the largest population of women veterans of any state at more than 207,500. The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) encourages all Texans to recognize the women veterans in their community and thank them for their service.

“Women Veterans Day marks the anniversary of the U.S. allowing women to serve as active members of the military,” said Texas Veterans Commission Chairwoman and U.S. Navy Veteran Laura Koerner.

“Like all veterans, service comes with sacrifice; time away from family, personal challenges, and a deep commitment to something greater than yourself.

As women veterans, some of you also faced the unique challenge of serving in traditionally male-dominated environments, balancing military duty with motherhood, and paving the way for those who would follow.

Today, we recognize your strength, your resilience, and your impact.

To all women veterans, thank you for your courage and unwavering commitment to this country.”

TVC encourages women who served in the armed forces to identify as veterans and claim the benefits they have earned.
