Op-Ed: Our Revolution Applauds Vikki Goodwin’s Victory in Texas Lieutenant Governor Democratic Primary Runoff
Austin, TX — Our Revolution, the nation’s largest independent political organizing group founded by Sen. Bernie Sanders, is applauding Vikki Goodwin’s victory in the Democratic primary runoff for Texas lieutenant governor, calling the result part of a broader movement of grassroots, working-class candidates reshaping the political future of the state.
“Goodwin’s victory is another sign that Texans are hungry for bold, people-powered leadership willing to take on corporate interests and fight for working families,” said Joseph Geevarghese, Executive Director of Our Revolution. “Across Texas, we are seeing growing momentum behind candidates running on economic populism, affordability, healthcare, public education, workers’ rights, and democracy — from leaders like James Talarico to down-ballot candidates like Julio Salinas and others building durable grassroots power in communities across the state.”
Our Revolution members and volunteers across Texas helped support voter engagement and grassroots organizing efforts throughout the race as part of the organization’s long-term commitment to building progressive infrastructure and multiracial working-class political power across Texas.
Our Revolution is committed to organizing across Texas through the general election to help build a stronger statewide coalition of working-class, grassroots candidates committed to economic justice, public education, healthcare, reproductive freedom, anti-corruption reform, and democracy.
Alongside Vikki Goodwin, Our Revolution has endorsed a growing Texas slate that includes James Talarico for U.S. Senate, Greg Casar for Congress, Julio Salinas for Texas House, Dolores Lozano, Sarah Eckhardt, Freddie Haynes, Clayton Tucker, and other candidates working to build long-term progressive infrastructure across the state.
All endorsed candidates have signed Our Revolution’s Fight Oligarchy pledge, committing to reject corporate and billionaire money, break up monopoly power, oppose government giveaways to oligarchs, overhaul campaign finance laws, and challenge the revolving door between corporate interests and public office.
The organization says this growing coalition of economic populist candidates represents Democrats’ clearest path toward building durable working-class power and ultimately turning Texas blue.
