Austin, TX – The Texas Historical Commission (THC) is celebrating mothers and motherly figures by inviting families to participate in special events designed to honor and make memories with these incredible women. With Mother’s Day around the corner on May 10, multiple state historic sites will host events or free admission on or around the special annual day. On Saturday, May 9, the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg is hosting Mother’s Day Tea Time Couture and Fashion Show. From 1-2 p.m., experience the style, stories, and spirit of the 1940s with a catwalk fashion show while also enjoying finger sandwiches and refreshments from Nobilitea. San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site in San Felipe will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mother’s Day, May 10. Also on Sunday, May 10, the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site in Denison is hosting Mother’s Day Crafts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your mother and make a craft and memories. Designed for one adult and children ages 5-13, the paint party will also allow visitors to learn about the maternal figures of the Maxey House, including Dora Maxey Lightfoot.
