Looking for something free and fun to do this weekend? Head to Klyde Warren Park for the seventh-annual Festival of Joy on Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Inspired by one of the world’s oldest Indian street festivals, the family-friendly event kicks off with a vibrant parade and ceremonial chariot pull followed by a day of children’s activities, crafts, yoga, cultural experiences, live music, face painting, henna, shopping and more.
Presented by the East Dallas restaurant Kalachandji’s, Festival of Joy features a free vegetarian feast at 5 p.m. and wraps up with a concert by returning headliner The Mayapuris at 7 p.m.
Throughout the day, festivalgoers can explore a bazaar with unique items and apparel, try on a sari or turban and capture the moment in a 360-degree photo booth. Yoga in the park, meditation and “ask a monk” sessions offer a welcoming way to connect with the culture and take part in a 3,000-year-old global celebration.
Admission is free. Paid parking is available nearby, and ridesharing is encouraged. To learn more, go to FestivalofJoyDallas.org.
